King of the Concrete Festival 2026
Every Playground Has a Story.
Before the lights of the arena. Before the jerseys with names on the back. Before the trophies, statistics and national teams, there is usually a piece of concrete.
A playground.
It is where a child first discovers the game, where friends become teammates, where rivalries are born and where basketball becomes something more than a sport. Across Kampala and Uganda, these courts have quietly produced generations of players, coaches, fans, characters and stories. Some of them became stars. Others simply became legends in their neighbourhoods. All of them left something behind.
King of the Concrete Festival 2026 is a celebration of those places and the culture that grows around them.
Presented by Basketball256 and 256er Athletics, King of the Concrete returns in December 2026 as an annual celebration of Ugandan basketball culture — bringing together competition, community, music, lifestyle and storytelling on the same piece of concrete.
At its heart is the game itself: 5-on-5 playground basketball, where teams come to compete, represent their courts and settle the question that playground basketball has always asked — who rules here?
But King of the Concrete is about more than finding a champion.
It is about recognising the playground as part of the history of Ugandan basketball.
Every court has its characters. The player everyone remembers. The old head who still knows every move. The kid who believes he is destined for the national team. The coach who keeps showing up. The DJ, the photographer, the sneakerhead, the fan, the neighbourhood storyteller. The court itself becomes a kind of living archive, carrying memories from one generation to another.
That is the culture we want to put on display.
The 2026 festival will bring that culture together through a weekend of basketball and entertainment, with 5-on-5 competition, skills challenges, shooting contests, dunking contests, music, food, fashion and the energy that makes the playground different from anywhere else in the game.
Because basketball culture does not exist only between the four lines.
It exists in the conversations before tip-off, the music coming from the sidelines, the shoes worn on the court, the arguments over who is really the best player, the celebrations after a big win and the stories that survive long after the final whistle.
King of the Concrete is designed to capture all of it.
The festival also continues Basketball256’s broader commitment to documenting and preserving Ugandan basketball culture. For years, the game has been measured through scores, standings and championships. Those things matter. But they are only part of the story.
There is another history — the history of the places where people learned to love basketball.
King of the Concrete is an attempt to tell that history while it is still being written.
This December, the concrete becomes the stage.
The best playground teams will come together. New rivalries will emerge. Old ones will be renewed. Players will have an opportunity to make their names, while fans will have a chance to experience basketball in its most elemental form: five players, one ball, one court and nothing guaranteed.
There will be competition, but there will also be culture.
There will be basketball, but there will also be stories.
And when the final game is over and a new King of the Concrete has been crowned, the festival will leave behind something more important than a trophy — another chapter in the story of Ugandan basketball.

The question is simple:
What story will your playground tell?
