Oilers to carry Uganda banner at BAL Qualifiers

The Basketball Africa League (BAL) is Africa’s premier men’s basketball league scheduled to begin play in October 2019. The league consists of twelve teams, each qualified through their domestic competition, to similar to the formats of the UEFA Champions League and Africa Basketball League. The league is a joint effort between the National Basketball Association (NBA) and FIBA with sponsorship from the Jordan Brand and Pepsi. Its inaugural season will start with qualifying rounds in October 2019 and the regular season in March 2020. The competition replaces FIBA’s Africa Basketball League as the continent’s top-tier league.

Six-Peat Uganda National Basketball League (NBL) Champions the City Oilers will carry the banner for Uganda at the BAL Qualifiers scheduled to start on October 15, in Dar Es Salaam, Tanzania.  A total of 32 teams from across Africa will participate in the BAL Qualifications this October with Uganda’s City Oilers pooled in Group D alongside Rwanda’s Patriots, Hawassa BBC of Ethiopia, JKT BBC of Tanzania, Brave Hearts of Malawi and Dynamo BBC of Burundi.

The BAL Qualifiers consist of a total of 6 groups, with the top two teams from each group and four wildcard teams advancing to the next qualification stage of the elite 16.

The Oilers delegation left Kampala for Dar-es-Salaam via Entebbe International Airport on Saturday 12th October 2019.
